Ottawa - 8pm March 29, 2008

Turn off your lights for Earth Hour. Shed light on the need to support action on climate change. Mayor Larry O’Brien added Ottawa’s name to a list of international cities that participated in Earth Hour 2008. Earth Hour is a global event lead by WWF that encourages people to turn off their lights for one hour – as a symbolic statement on the need to take action on climate change.
Ottawa’s status as a capital city of a G8 nation added weight to a list of cities across the globe – including Chicago, Toronto, Copenhagen and Sydney, Australia.
The City of Ottawa was proud to lead the nation’s capital in the event and build upon our environmental efforts – including our success in achieving our corporate GHG emissions targets.
Hydro Ottawa was a major partner in Earth Hour Ottawa, and monitored the drop of electricity used in Ottawa during the one-hour period. Many businesses and institutions joined the rally – including the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce and Algonquin College. More added their voice each day to amplify Ottawa’s call to support the need for action on climate
