Individuals all over the world are turning their passion for the planet into action with I Will If You Will challenges that inspire their friends, families, colleagues and communities to do their part for the environment and go beyond the hour.
Here are some of our international IWIYW favourites:
Italy
Earth Hour was officially launched in Italy last week and the Italians have really been stepping up fantastic IWIYW challenges.
The staff at AIESEC Italy plan to sing the classic Italian song ‘Volare’ in front of the Duomo di Milano (Milan Cathedral), if 5000 people pledge to take public transportation instead of taking their cars or motorcycles to work or school. In a bid to help cut CO2 emissions, surf team Way4spot has promised to clean a beach if a hundred of their fellow surfers carpool to go surfing together. And Italian Steve will brave the water and learn how to swim, if 200 people promise to consume local organic produce.
Denmark
Denmark is another country coming up strong with IWIYW dares. In addition to the musicians we mentioned in a previous post, comedian Sebastian Dorset will pole dance, if he can get 400 people to turn down the heat when they leave their homes. While handball player, Joachim Boldsen, will be giving away a signed pair of his World Championship shoes if 500 Danes shift to climate friendly light bulbs at home.
Philippines
Filipino celebrities are also raising awareness on environmental issues with their own IWIYW challenges. Now on his second IWIYW, WWF Philippines ambassador Marc Nelson, will kiteboard from the Filipino island of Boracay to the main island of Panay in a panda hat, if 1000 people pledge to use reusable tumblers. Earth Hour ambassador Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski will contribute 500 fruit bearing trees to the Abuan watershed if 500 people stop smoking for five days. And WWF Philippines ambassador Rovilson Fernandez will conduct a free cross-fit class if 1000 people pledge to use reusable shopping bags.
New Zealand
In New Zealand, skateboarder and Internet sensation of ‘Nek Minnit’ fame, Levi Hawken, will film himself skating through Auckland if 500 people use reusable plastic bottles and coffee cups.
Singapore
Earth Hour ambassador Utt Panichkul wants Singaporeans to save energy and reduce carbon emissions by going one degree up. He will drop one piece of clothing for every 1,000 people who pledge to turn up their air-conditioners by one degree.
These are just some examples of the amazing IWIYW dares that have been submitted via our YouTube channel. The impact is massive when collectively we take actions that make a difference.. No matter where you’re from, you too can become an IWIYW hero by submitting your very own challenge at YouTube.com/EarthHour
